After dinner (and several drinks) Paula and I wander around downtown Bardstown, Kentucky. There's a spectacular catholic basilica in town but it's closed after 5 PM. We stumble across an open garage door nearby and spot a nice guy who chat's us up. It's Father Jason who lives in the rectory and is a Parish Priest for St. Joseph's. He happily guides us on a personal tour of the cathedral with personal anecdotes and historical perspective. What a good chap!

Father Jason Harris - St. Joseph's, Bardstown, KY |
A high vaulted ceiling soars over massive columns that hide hand-hewed poplar posts inside. Father Jason shows us a secret panel where we can see the inside of these columns that resemble marble on the outside.

St. Joseph's is the oldest Catholic Church west of the Allegheny Mountains. This is the diocese from which all Catholic churches in the USA to the north and west have sprung. Father Jason shows us baby bottles that he is using to remind people of a current fundraiser to help new parents in need. We can tell that this must be a congregation full of life.
