Driving through rolling hills we're on the lookout for "large barns". Our hostess at the Hill Top B&B tells us they're called ricks where the bourbon ages in charred oak barrels for years and years.
Wait I know this one...all bourbon is whiskey but not all whiskey is bourbon. For a whiskey to be given the name bourbon it can only come from a new charred oak barrel and then there are some fed guidelines about proof etc.
Very good. There is also a requirement that the grain used is at least 51% corn. It's gotta be distilled at 160 proof or less and be put into the barrel at 125 proof or less and must contain no additives (like flavoring or spices).
