Silk Bazaar

We get directions from Datta's granddaughter to help us on an independent shopping spree. She has written meticulous instructions in English (so we'll understand) and Hindi (so we can show the cab driver). But I don't think many of the cab drivers can read as they stare uncomprehendingly at my piece of paper. One of the places on our list is a temporary silk bazaar set up on a street corner in Pune. As we walk in we realize that it is an immense find: a treasure trove that extends across the entire city block filled with sellers hawking wares from all over India. Many of the prices are surprisingly low with blouses for 400 Rupees ($9 US). We do not bargain. It would seem a silly game to play with people's livelihood at stake.
